little girl on the way

June 20, 2011

I’m still in a bit of shock from the ultrasound results. For nearly six years, it’s been all about the boys, so I still can’t believe we’re having a healthy, baby…girl! Already I’ve picked up some rompers and bloomers (bloomers!) from a favorite second-hand store.

One More Time with Feeling, Part 1

June 19, 2011

We had to go down to LA last week to meet with our moving company, so we squeezed in a visit to LACMA and made it a top priority to pick up some whoopie pies. Also last week; smoothies from Blenders and my pregnancy standby, In-n-Out. I think I’ve eaten enough animal-style cheeseburgers the past four months to last me a lifetime.

Stenciling and snake making

June 15, 2011

The boys and I stenciled some designs onto fabric then sewed up our newly patterned fabrics into snakes. The kids love their creations (especially when trying to whip each other — “Boys, is that okay, or not okay? Not okay.”)

Purchasing googly eyes for the snakes/weapons is on our to-do list tomorrow, along with picking up our moving supplies. Only two more weeks left, eeeeek.

Leave? Stay?

June 8, 2011

Do we stay or do we go? That’s the question we’ve been agonizing over the past couple of months. And we’ve finally decided it’s time for us to leave California.

A new job for Ryan means we’re moving across the country — to Charlotte, North Carolina in fact! My mom has been living in Raleigh the past six years, so you can imagine her freaking out in a good way when I told her the news.

We’re excited for Ryan’s new job opportunity, being closer to my mom, and having more space for our growing family. But we will be leaving behind so much! Our families, the most wonderful, wonderful friends, perfect weather, the water… Even though Ryan and I have lived along the coast for ten years, I have never gotten tired of seeing the ocean.

But all our friends and loved ones have been supportive of this move, and everyone familiar with NC has nothing but good to say. I’m grateful for that because it makes me excited (I don’t see NC until the day we move in) and dampens the already-growing homesickness for the state we’ve lived in most our lives.

We have three weeks before our new adventure. Then we’re trading the west coast for the east!

Above quote is by Dr. Seuss. I want to make something for the kids’ room with it on it because they’re such fans. The full quote reads, “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.”

Shabby Apple Necklace Giveaway {closed}

June 5, 2011

Have you ever browsed through Shabby Apple clothing? I constantly see pretty new things on the site, like an ever-expanding collection of LBDs (non-strappy, thank you very much!), workout gear, and even a baby line for girls. So I was more than happy to host a giveaway for one of their items!

Up for grabs is the Through the Looking Glass Pendant. A side hinge means you can open up the bauble like a locket and place a small keepsake inside to display. A couple of ideas I have floating around my head are to stick in vintage-style pics of my kids or give it a modern look by putting in a piece of geometric patterned paper. I really love this necklace because there are so many ways to personalize it.

To enter the giveaway, simply leave a comment below. You can add in a second entry/comment if you visit Shabby Apple’s Facebook page and “Like” it.

Lastly, Shabby Apple has also offered readers a coupon for 10% off. Just enter ambrosia10off at checkout.

Winner will be announced next Monday. Good luck!

Congrats to Dana for winning the necklace, comment entry number 15!
