Another installment of ‘I love this town’

December 30, 2008

Ryan and I finally got around to watching Little Miss Sunshine last night. Seeing all the scenes where they’re in ‘Redondo beach’ (actually filmed here in Ventura) made me realize we don’t get down there as much as we should. So, to the Promenade the boys and I went.

And yes, I felt like a nerdy tourist snapping shots with my camera. But the weather and lighting was too gorgeous to resist.

our quirky and cute downtown

Raya from the PaperPony did a neat little post about downtown Ventura on SF Girl By Bay a couple of weeks ago.

Thinking of downtown makes me anxious to go on another date night with the huz.
See more Ventura here and here.

What Twenty Dollars Will Get You

October 9, 2008

A couple weeks ago, Kristen had done a post on “How far does $20 get you at the local farmer’s market?” For a while, I’ve been meaning to do the same, so here it is:

Some days I do better than others. This day in particular, I did just okay. It’s usually the fruit that puts me over, but fortunately, the requisite strawberries ran out by the time we arrived at the market (Kai’s treat for being a good boy and not running off to jump in mud puddles).

I have been noticing, however, that my $20 seem to stretch less and less as Kai and Dax are growing and therefore, eating more. Thank goodness my neighbor friend, who works at a local farm, gives me two dozen free-range, organic eggs each week. She usually throws in some fruits and veggies, occasionally a pie, and definitely some delish goat cheese.

Still, though, with the ridiculous price of healthy, natural food, I have half-a-mind to move out to the country, live on a farm, and eat off the fat o’ the land.
