Finally, a proper summer day
June 22, 2009

I am suprised at how many of my friends LOVE the June gloom characteristic of this part of Cali. But me, it puts me in such a weird state. I lose all sense of motivation and just want to rot on the couch while popping bon bons and watching soaps. Not possible with two boys, BTW. And I’ve sworn of off soaps since my Passions kick in college. Ew!
But today was sunny and all sorts of oceany breezy. “Just like San Luis!” Ryan and I would observe, and nod in agreement (if you’ve ever lived in San Luis Obispo, you would forever use the climate there as a measure of perfect weather and act as if you’re an expert on what is a suitable ratio of clouds to blue sky to ocean breeze).
We played in LA, going for a train ride in Griffith Park and stopping in Beverly Hills for Sprinkles cupcakes. Finally. I can join the club and never have to hear “What?! You’ve never had Sprinkles?” Now I get to do that to people. Because it’s good. The frosting is a little much for me, but the cupcake as a whole. I approve.
So now that I’ve tried Sprinkles, where to next?

I hear ya on the SLO weather. That’s why we decided to stay here after we graduated. I just knew that there is no where else that you can have a perfect weather all year long. And the perfect mix of small town feel with the conveniences of a college town.
I haven’t had Sprinkles, we’ll have to try them the next time we’re down south.
Hi, I’d like to share a Google Maps link with you.
Link:
Vanilla Bake Shop!! I had these at a wedding I shot in April – I ate three minis they were so delicious. Personally, Sprinkles are pretty & I love the packaging, but the actual cupcake is a bit much for me.
Fun day!
Hey, the link didn’t show up. But it’s on the cupcake map.
What a great way to end a summer outing. I’ve not had Sprinkles yet but oh my, they look so good.
Love Griffith Park — my grandparents used to take me there when I was a kid.
I’m with you on the June Gloom/May Grey — overcast days are well, — crappy in my book.
Yeah SLO is really the ultimate weather comparison! I was doing yard work today, and it’s sooo nice outside! I’m fighting my self not to ditch work and school to go to the beach. Ugh!
Looks like fun in LA! And I love the look on Kai’s face. I bet he’s thinking, “Would mom kill me if I secretly ate all of these?”
Have I ever told you this is my favorite blog? Just thought you should know!
(Even though you tell me when you blog, at work I always look at it to make sure all items are unread.)
did you remember my order?????
Ooh, I love Griffeth Park! We want to take Riley to the train museum they’ve got there.
Is anything better than it is in SLO?
We LOVE Sprinkles cupcakes!! And you were there when we were dying to get there … they had Key Lime flavor … did you try that one??
Oh, and more locally you can try CrushCakes and Whodidly in SB. Anna told me there is a cool park near CrushCakes, too, so it’s a great afternoon treat for everyone!
Yeah, I’ve never had sprinkles, but thanks, now my pregnant belly is craving it with that picture you posted.
PS great pics.
I live in UT and even I’ve tried Sprinkles. They are the cupcakes I use to measure how good every other cupcake is (in other words I LOVE them). And since this is UT and people here turn to sugar instead of alcohol we have lots of cupcake bakerys and I must say I haven’t tried any that compare to Sprinkles.
You didn’t say which is your favorite! When I come to Ventura in early July let’s take a jaunt over to Sprinkles…you and Kaleene can initiate me into the club!
Kristen, so true! Sugar is my “substance” that I abuse!
Jen, I can’t wait for us to do a girl’s trip! Hope it happens before the summer is out. Favorite? Chocolate marshmallow. Even when Kai dropped half onto the dirty LA sidewalk, I STILL ate it. So good.
Can you bring some with you when I see you in July, the sprinkles that is : o)
A. I agree – I dislike June gloom very much. Makes me grumpy.
B. Crushcakes in Santa Barbara….delish
Hi Chrystal! I’m so glad the gloom has lifted. Summer always comes late around here. Or it’s only from 3pm to 5pm.
