My favorite part this weekend was touring the Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA. It was hands-down amazing. Amazing! We took a self-guided audio tour (free) and was happy to see lots of other families with young kids and even some childrens’ activities. Afterwards, we visited the California Science Center — also no charge.
We’re very much about no/low-cost cultural activities to do with the kids, so let me know if you have any other places we should hit up. So far, I know that kids get in free to LACMA and the Griffith Observatory. And also that you can get 3 mini cupcakes for five bucks at Vanilla Bake Shop, super important to know!

It looks like you had a fun day. It’s great that you are so close to all the cool cultural activities. It’s nice to know that there are so many kid friendly activities in LA. We’re definitely do for a trip down south. Thanks for sharing.
Kiwi, you would love it there. Make sure to bring a camera if you ever visit. It’s impossible to take a bad shot of that building!
Gorgeous pictures!
I love the Getty Center and it’s also free. You have to reserve parking (since they limit the number of people per day). I can’t remember if it costs. If it did, it was only like five dollars.
I have wanted to take my boys to the disney concert hall for a while now…if only I could convince my husband! Maybe i will have him read your blog post about it!
Great pics and thanks for the tip about the cupcakes!
super cute shoes, cute pictures
Beautiful pictures darling pie!
We went to the Getty recently. You didn’t have to reserve parking, but it did cost $15 to park. There is no entrance fee after that. The gardens are very pretty and it’s a perfect place for a picnic lunch with the kids. They have a small indoor children’s area. I like the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Kids under 6 are free. They also have a kids area down by the cafe — the Delacroix to Monet exhibit there is great. I’ve been wanting to take the kids to the Museum of Neon Art (Mona) it’s also free for kids under 5. If you’re a BofA member, they have a “free museum” program which is pretty cool too.
Thanks for sharing info on the Getty, Emily. It’s been a such long time since we’ve been there, I’ve totally forgotten about it.
Shari, sell the “free of charge” angle to your husband. The architecture is amazing and would impress anyone.
(And thanks, Mom! And Rileigh!)
Sweet, thanks for the info Becky! We’ve never been to the SB one. Must go soon.

You are so good about taking your kids to neat places and taking advantage of living near fun places, I need to get out there more. -keely
Hey Jenn! Look, I’m commenting on your blog! I haven’t bumped into you at Target or the park in too long. Love your photos… I think we might have to copy your field trip. Looks very cool. When we lived in Pasadena someone gave me a giant list of all the cool stuff to do with kids in LA (and info on their scheduled free days and stuff). If I find it in my piles of papers I’ll get you a copy. One thing we have loved is the Noah’s Ark at the Skirball (free Thursdays). In fact I think I’m going to head to their site to book our tickets now.
Fantastic images Jenn!
