I placed the tape over the printout before I cut out the Polaroids, so the edges are uncovered. I covered only a couple of Polaroids at a time because I was worried the tape would crinkle and stick if I tried to cover a large area at once.

So cute! You can also use Judi Kins Micro Glaze on your ink jet images before applying the 3D glaze. It keeps the ink from running and protects the color. I think that you’ve done the right thing, though, to keep these looking like tiny polaroids.

I love this idea :)
I used some of my tiny pictures I took while in Japan for the same effect – They have booths everywhere to take pictures in and get printed out, that you can add all sorts of writing and backgrounds on, and they’re the perfect size for this sort of thing. They’re called purikura, so if you could find any near where you live, you could also try that :)

Way cool idea! I think I’ll have to do this for my fridge, with some photos I just found.

BTW, you might want to consider using clear contact paper instead of scotch tape. If you cut out the corners at 90 degree angles, you can wrap the sides all around, for a no-line finish!

I use contact for making awesome bookmarks too, and preserving beloved favorites from the library. Cheap laminating. LOL

[...] First off, I picked out some photos. I scaled down my photos in Word to .8 wide, and made a rectangular outline around them that looked like a polaroid frame. Printed them and cut them along the outline with my paper trimmer. Next I cut some chipboard to fit the photos…I used the photos as a guide for cutting. The back of a sketchbook was perfect for chipboard usage. Then I adhered the photos to the chipboard using E6000 glue, I let them dry for about 20 minutes before I went onto the next step of painting the edges white with acrylic paint. I don’t know if this is something you’d be interested in, but I discovered that if you need to cover photos that were printed on a photo printer at home with glaze you can use clear nail polish and it keeps the ink from running.

Thanks for adding a polaroid frame at the bottom. I downloaded the file, but I can’t use it because it’s quicktime. I know I could download it, but I find that putting apple programs onto my pc starts a cat/dog fight and my computer stops working properly. So I just used the picture at the bottom.

I am hoping that either, more of your downloads are available in a pc format as well, or that you might start including what the file looks like at the bottom of your post so that people who don’t own macs can use those for templates instead?

I love these! You may be able to try the paper glaze and see how it reacts to an Epson printer if the Epson printer uses Dura-Brite inks. They are permanent inks so it may prevent running, it would also depend on the photo paper used and how much paper glaze.

Mandy — What I did was added my image to the template, drag the polaroid border layer to the top so it covers your picture. Then resize the whole image to whatever width you like, and make sure to have “constrain proportions” checked, and it will automatically resize the length. I made mine 1″ wide, which worked out perfectly since my magnets are 1″ wide, but you can really make them any size you want.

Those are neat. By the way, have you heard of Shrinky Dink printer paper? It would easier (and more durable) that way…. just print your images on that paper, and bake them. Just a tip in case you want to make more.

Love this idea! I think it will be great for Christmas gifts for the family. Has anyone tried this by using regular white computer paper in place of the photo paper? Love this idea, just thought I’d cut costs if I could just use print paper.

aw man, Ive been trying to do this project and I seriously cannot figure out how to scale my image to fit the polaroid frame without it looking stretched and pixelated. Any tips for a newbie at PS?

@ Leopardcat: When you grab the corner of the image to size it down, hold down the “shift” key at the same time and it will lock the length and width scale (will not make it look stretched or pixelated). Be sure that (after you have it to the size you want) let go of the left mouse button, THEN let go of the shift key. Hope this helps.

gosh… i literally have been trying the computer part of this for HOURS. I don’t have a printer that will work very well, so i was trying to put the mini polaroids on a 4×6 so i could upload them to walgreens and have the photos printed for me. I have illustrator AND photoshop and cannot figure out how to get the pictures to cooperate. i am so frustrated! does anyone have any other suggestions?

What is the point of the pen? Is it just to fill the edges? Also, can I substitute that with Mod Podge?

Thanks for the tip I appreciate you responding, however it didn’t help me. I originally wanted to make this for a birthday in October, couldn’t figure it out in time and now I was hoping to make this as a Christmas gift but I’m not confident I’ll be able to figure it out. Also, when I watch tutorials on youtube, when people drag the image to the frame, the image automatically goes behind the frame but in my case the image is in front of the frame and covers it up. Does that sound strange?

In your layers palette, you have to move the picture BELOW the Polaroid layer.

okay so after I scaled down the photo, you couldnt really tell if it looked stretched or not so I think it’ll work. Thanks girls for helping me out!

I tried making these in Photoshop. My canvas is 300 tall and roughly 240 pixels wide. These equate to 1″ and .8″ however, the image is HUGE!

I opened up another canvas of 8.5″ x 11 so I can transfer all the polaroid images to one page so I can print them off onto one page, but I can only fit 2 on a row. What am I missing?

If someone can help me I would appreciate it as I want to be able give these out as gifts on Monday! (I know waiting until last minute).

ok i got the photoshop part firgure out and tried my first batch tonight. having a hard time figuring out what ot use as the backing. tried the back of a spiral notebook but it causes a hump and the magnet wont sit fluch with it.

Does anyone know how to do this on a Mac with iphoto?

I made mine a little different, used a sheet of sticky white foam so I didn’t have to paint the edges. I used poladroid to create the pics with frame, then discovered picasa has a similar frame overlay.

Great tip on using a good blade, too. Mine was less-than-stellar and I had to sharpen it often.

My husband and have been laid off for over a year now, so we really don’t have a lot of money for Christmas Presents this year. This is a perfect idea! Thank you so much, not only for the idea, but for the downloads.

This is a good idea for ref. magnets. I tried it but I glued the pictures to a 1inch by 1 inch piece of tile. You can pick up the small tiles at a Home Depot, Lowes or home improvement store and can be found in the tile dept. They come on a mesh backing with 30 tiles to a sheet so you can get 30 magnets out of 1 sheet. After glueing the picture to the tile just put several coats of modge podge glue on top. Buy a flat magnet sheet (these can be picked up at a craft store) cut to size of tile and glue to back of tile.

Just I suggestion, but I bought a stack of printable magnet paper from my local stationery supply store. That printed brilliantly, and now I just need to cut them out with a trimmer. :)

If one could fall in love with a craft project this would be my first true love! These are so adorable. I’m always looking for a great new craft project that would make a great gift as well. How much time did it take to make them? They do seem somewhat time consuming. Thanks for sharing! By the way, congratulations on the baby on the way!

Awesome! I was able to print them on photo paper on my inkjet printer…I sealed them with reg. glossy mod podge and then used the Mod Podge Dimensional Magic. Worked PERFECT!

Love this. Making them right now! I couldn’t find chip board at JoAnn’s, but over by the needlepoint stuff they had something called Peel & Stick Mounting Board for Textile Art. It worked perfect and was great because it has pressure sensitive adhesive included. Thanks again for sharing!! :)

I LOVE this. I just made some for gifts for my parents and my in-laws of all of their grandchildren and granddogs. It turned out great and pretty easy once I figured out how to use photoshop. Oh and thank you for the template! What a lifesaver.

I just made these featuring pics of my fiance and I. I love them! It was so easy, and the result is just adorable. I used those crazy neowhatever magnets with superglue and rubber cemented the photo paper to a thick illustration board I found at Staples. They are really strong, and they stick to the fridge perfectly.

Love this idea, miss the old polaroids and am happy this retro trend is making a return
